Back-up Solutions

One of the most critical and highest maintenance pieces
of any network is its backup system. Just like death and taxes, eventually one of your critical systems is going to fail. Tapes by their very nature are unreliable and wear out over time. A backup job that has worked for months will all of a sudden fail for no apparent reason. The only way to be sure your backups are working is to monitor them every day and then periodically do test restores. A popular strategy is to backup first to a hard disk or NAS (network attached storage) and then copy to tape or to an off site service. No matter which way you go daily vigilance is not a good idea, it is critical to your business.
